Equipment & Repairs 2023/24
17.04.2023; Aigina |
Sunware Solar Panels 4x 50W on Bimini | Extended the solar panel by another 4 units which are mounted on the Bimini; added second charger Fox260. |
Dinghy cover new | New dinghy cover when under way or on the hard.
Terminals & Turnbuckles of Guardrails replaced | Replaced all terminals and turnbuckles of the guardrail wires, as the old ones couldn’t be moved any more and some were about to break.
Sinks in Toilets replaced | The old plastic sinks were not tight any more, but the equal model not available. Hence I fitted new metal sinks inside the old ones.
Joystick Bowthruster replaced | The joystick now operates again right/left (instead of up/down).
Watermeter replaced | The watermeter (Débimetre) has a built in battery, which can’t be replaced. Hence the whole unit had to be exchanged after 20yr.
28.04.2023; Dodekanes | Keypad & ST60 Multi replaced Datahub installed |
The keypad model had changed, hence I had to replace it to fit the new cover. I swapped the ST60 Multi at the rudder to be readable again. On top I installed a PredictWind Datahub to permit automatic GPS-Tracking. It is connected by NMEA2000 with the Raymarine network. |
Victron Phoenix Inverter installed | I connected the Inverter which we mounted last year. Now we get 220V from our batteries, and not only when the generator runs or when connected to shore power. Though only 800W.
10.06.2023; Kreta | USB & Power Plugs replaced | I replaced the Cigarette-Lighter type 12V plugs with USB QC & PD plugs. One of those was also added on the stb side of the salon. Power plugs were replaced with 2x T13. |
Victron Cerbo, GX Touch, Smart Shunt, MPPT 100/20, Orion B2B installed/replaced | I replaced the old battery monitoring system with the full range of Victron components. These can be monitored via app on the mobile or on the touchscreen at the nav-desk. The Fox 260 solar chargers were also replaced with MPPT components.
23.06.2023; Rhetymno |
Chair & Storage Boxes new | We installed a foldable chair at the stern rail made of sturdy marine wood. Then we added two storage boxes underneath the bow cabin bunk for engine and generator parts. |
04.07.2023; Catania – 10.09.2023; Garachico |
Deck Paint KiwiGrip new | After testing KiwiGrip for the first time in Crete, we were convinced and ordered 4 more liters. Then along our route whenever time and weather permitted, we did another section of the deck with this paint. Much work, as old, damaged paint had to be scratched off, levelled with Epoxy, then primer, then Kiwigrip. We finished the last bit underneath the sprayhood in Deltaville on the hard. |
30.10.2023; |
Genaker Head & Leeches repaired | On the passage from Lanzarote to Las Palmas the head of our Genaker tore off, as well as on both sides until the center. We had this fixed in Las Palmas de GC. But on the Atlantic passage the head tore off again. It wasn’t properly done. Only in Guadeloupe we found a sailmaker who replaced the panels beneath the head and inserted a new leech line. |
05.03.2024; |
Boom Vang repaired | I replaced the tube of the boom vang, as the old one showed a hole from corrosion. On that occasion I replaced also the nut joining the boom to the mast. |
20.04.2024; |
Engine Counter, Temp Sensors & Ventilators installed | I installed a new counter for the engine hours in the engine room, the one at the rudder wasn’t working for years. This gives now more reliable readings (not just manual records). Also temperature sensors were installed for the fridge, engine room and salon and connected to Cerbo. A new ventilator was installed in the front cabin. |
15.05.2024; Charleston |
Rudder Position Sensor replaced | The moment we wanted to leave Charleston for Beaufort, the Autopilot didn’t work any more. The sensor for the rudder position had failed. Luckily I could buy a spare from the local West Marine shop in town the next morning. |
24.05.2024; Deltaville |
Anchor Lewmar Delta replaced | We damaged our anchor when hitting a pole in the Bahamas under sail. Hence we had to replace that…almost 500USD. |
Hydraulic Oil of Rudder System refilled | After so many years we found out, where to refill the hydraulic oil of the rudder system. The steering was not ok for a while, hence I started to get worried and had asked the manufacturer. No information about this in any manual!
Hull Paint & Kiwigrip under Sprayhood applied |
We painted most of the spots along the hull, where blisters were forming. No need to tell, how much work this required, first scratching away the old, filling with Epoxy, aplying prime, then OneUp base paint and finally TopLac (all in multiple coats). Then we finished also the last bit of Kiwigrip painting underneath the sprayhood. This meant dismounting the winches and clutches and refitting again. |
|
Clutches (2x) replaced | Two of the clutches under the sprayhood broke when dismounting them, hence had to be replaced. But after more than 20 years, quite ok.
Plotter a125 repaired…? | After having been replaced within warranty period in 2020, the touch function of the plotter failed again last year. I sent it in to Raymarine USA for repair … but they have no more spares! They offered in exchange a used, current Axiom plotter with warranty. But this meant also replacing the second plotter at the nav-desk.
Sails, Bimini and Sprayhood repaired/restitched |
Sails washed, then brought to sailmaker for minor repairs. Genaker washed by sailmaker. Bimini & Sprayhood brought to canvas workshop for major restitching. PVC-windows in sprayhood replaced and mesh added as sun-protection. |
|
09.06.2024; Deltaville resp. before | Standard maintenance | Watermaker membranes cleaned and conserved; oil change HP pump; filter replaced. Sea water circ rinsed on engine & generator change of oil & filters & impellers; heat exchanger rinsed and filled with new cooling fluid. Outboard rinsed, oil change. Anodes on propeller, rudders, keel and hull replaced. |
